Prayer must not replace action and accountability - Karbo to Duncan Williams

A leading member of Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s team, Anthony Abayifaa Karbo, has responded to Archbishop Nicholas Duncan-Williams’ call for prayers for the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), stressing that prayer and personal faith should complement, rather than replace, effective governance and concrete action.

Archbishop Duncan-Williams recently called for prayers for GoldBod, expressing concern about the challenges facing the institution and the powerful interests he believes are opposed to efforts to ensure that the right thing is done.

Responding to the call in a social media post, Karbo acknowledged the value of prayer and personal faith but argued that they cannot serve as substitutes for sound policy, institutional accountability, or active civic engagement.

“You have raised a critical point about governance,” Karbo said.

He noted that a healthy democracy requires transparent decision-making, evidence-based solutions, and leaders who are accountable to the people they serve.

According to him, when rhetoric takes the place of concrete action, public trust suffers while pressing national problems remain unresolved.

“When rhetoric replaces action, trust erodes and real problems go unsolved,” he stated.

Karbo further called on citizens to demand measurable results from public officials, protect the independence of state institutions, and ensure that every public official remains accountable to the Constitution and the citizens.
