Dear GhanaWeb: My husband won’t stop fraud and peddling drugs, even with our baby on the way

Dear GhanaWeb, I have been married for a year, and I am currently six months pregnant with our first child. My husband and I have been together for six years, and during that time, we have been involved in things I am not proud of. He sells drugs, steals cars, and runs online romance scams. I won’t pretend I am innocent because I have played a role in some of it, too. I have spoken to victims, helped set people up, and assisted in operations that ended with people losing their valuables and even their vehicles. Whenever a deal went through successfully, and I helped, he paid me well. Financially, we have never struggled. We own multiple cars, have plenty of cash, and live comfortably. Before we got married, we agreed that once we settled down, especially when children came into the picture, we would leave that life behind. I believed him. Now that our baby is on the way, I am increasingly worried. I feel we have made more than enough money to start a legitimate business, invest wisely, and live peacefully. Even without investing, we could survive comfortably for years. But every time I bring it up, he refuses to listen. Recently, we traveled to Germany, and returning became a serious problem. We ended up spending a huge amount of money obtaining new passports and identities through illegal channels. That experience frightened me because it made me realize how close we may be to getting caught one day. What worries me even more is that one of his close friends was recently arrested. Instead of seeing it as a warning sign, my husband acts like it has nothing to do with him. He says he doesn’t trust investments because he believes they are all scams due to the low returns. I am educated and hold a master’s degree, while he only completed SHS, so sometimes I feel he doesn’t fully understand the long-term risks. But no matter how much I explain, he insists on continuing. I love my husband and want him in my life. More importantly, I want both of us to be present to raise our child. I am terrified that one day he will get arrested and I will be dragged down with him because of my involvement. Am I wrong for wanting us to walk away from this life now before it’s too late? How do I convince him? I need your help, please. FG/EB Ghanaians optimistic ahead of Black Stars clash with Panama Source: www.ghanaweb.com
