Home - Ghana to host Somalia at Essipong Stadium for 2027 AFCON qualifiers – Kurt Okraku

pic 77766468 Ghana will host Somalia at the Essipong Sports Stadium in the upcoming 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying campaign, Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kurt Okraku has confirmed.

Okraku disclosed that the match will not be played at the Accra Sports Stadium, with the Essipong Sports Stadium in Sekondi receiving temporary approval from the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

Speaking on the venue arrangements, the GFA president said the association had secured the necessary clearance to stage the fixture at the Western Region facility.

“I can tell you on authority that the game will not be played at the Accra Sports Stadium. It will be played at the Essipong Stadium because we have had the green light from CAF,” he stated.

He further explained that CAF had granted Ghana temporary permission to use both the Accra Sports Stadium and the Essipong Sports Stadium as the association works towards preparing the facilities for international matches.

“I think we will be ready. The Confederation of African Football has given us temporary permission to use the Essipong Stadium. As we speak, we have two temporary approvals, the Accra Sports Stadium and the Essipong Sports Stadium,” Okraku added.

The decision means Ghana will take their home encounter against Somalia to the Essipong Sports Stadium rather than the Accra Sports Stadium.
