Home - Big Push is not innovative, road construction is nothing new – Stephen Amoah
The Member of Parliament for Nhyiaeso, Dr Stephen Amoah, has criticised the government’s Big Push programme, saying road construction alone cannot be considered an innovative development initiative.
He said Ghanaians expected the government to introduce programmes that would bring visible changes to their lives, particularly in health, education, agriculture and job creation.

Speaking during a video posted on X by the 1957News sighted by GhanaWeb on Saturday November 7, 2026, Dr Amoah said although the country’s key economic indicators had improved, many citizens were yet to feel the benefits in their daily lives.
He explained that inflation had dropped from 22.9% to about 5%, while economic growth had remained around 5.7%, compared to the 5.6% recorded before the previous government left office.
“In terms of primary macro indicators, I wouldn't sit here and say that it's bad. And we must be frank. I mean, you cannot come and say that one is three,” he said.
However, the Nhyiaeso MP said the improvement in these figures had not translated into better living conditions for many Ghanaians, who continue to complain about high prices and limited economic opportunities.
“When it comes to translation of the primary macro indicators into the secondary macro where people can feel it, it can impact lives. I mean, it's a challenge. A lot of Ghanaians are crying and complaining now because they don't feel anything. Prices are still high,” he stated.
Dr Amoah also questioned the government's description of road construction as part of its Big Push programme, arguing that successive governments had undertaken similar projects.
“Building roads or constructing roads, they are not innovative ideas. They were there,” he said, adding that Ghanaians expected something different from the initiative.
He further called for a clearer explanation of what the government intends to achieve with the Big Push, insisting that its impact should go beyond infrastructure development to programmes that directly improve the lives of citizens.
