Home - Black Stars intervention frees 16 mothers and newborns from Korle Bu
Sixteen mothers who had been unable to leave Korle Bu Teaching Hospital after childbirth have finally returned home with their newborn babies following a GH¢84,000 intervention by the Ghana Football Association on behalf of the Black Stars.
GFA President Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku led a delegation to the hospital on Friday, November 6, to settle the outstanding medical bills of the mothers, whose financial difficulties had kept them at the facility after delivery.
Some of the beneficiaries had spent as long as three months at the hospital, while others had been unable to secure their discharge for at least a week because they could not afford their medical expenses.
The payment cleared the outstanding bills for all 16 women, allowing them to leave the hospital and reunite with their families.
The intervention was carried out in the name of the Black Stars, with the GFA using the national team's platform to support the mothers and their newborns.
The beneficiaries expressed gratitude to the FA delegation and offered prayers for the Black Stars ahead of their upcoming international engagements.
Simeon-Okraku was accompanied by members of the GFA Executive Council, representatives of regional football associations, members of the Black Stars technical team, and senior FA officials.
The delegation included Executive Council Member Samuel Aboabire, Deputy General Secretary and Director of National Teams Alex Asante, and GFA Foundation Director Malcolm Frazier Appeadu.
