Home - Bronx Body Discovery: Ghanaian victim’s brother demands justice as CCTV shows body being dumped
The brother of 24-year-old Ghanaian Joseph Owusu, whose body was found inside a duffel bag at a dump site in New York, has appealed for justice as surveillance footage emerges showing two people unloading the bag from a car.
Footage shared by US broadcaster ABC7 on November 6, 2026, shows two individuals, believed to be adult men, removing a large black duffel bag from the boot of a white saloon car during the night.
The pair are seen dragging the bag onto a pavement before driving away.
Further footage from the following day shows another man placing the bag on a metal stretcher and wheeling it away. Owusu’s body was later discovered at a dump site by a person searching for scrap metal.
His brother, Kojo Yeboah, said the family was struggling to come to terms with the death and wanted those responsible to be identified and held accountable.
“I need justice for Joseph. I want the truth to come out because my brother didn’t deserve to die the way he did. He’s only 24. He had a lot of living to do,” Yeboah said.
Asked whether he recognised anyone in the surveillance footage, Yeboah said he did not know the individuals despite watching the recording several times.
“No, I don’t recognize anybody. I wish, but these people are just people I’ve never seen before,” he said.
He added that he had shared the footage with friends in the hope that someone might recognise the individuals or provide information that could assist the family.
Yeboah described Owusu as a much-loved family member and talented musician who played the piano for hours and served as an organist at their church in the Bronx.
“He loved the church. He loved things of God. From the church, from his friends, he was loved by everyone,” he said.
According to the family, Owusu worked providing direct support to people with disabilities while studying computer science.
Yeboah said the family was finding it difficult to adjust to his absence, particularly the loss of the familiar moments they shared at home.
He said he was trying to remain strong to support their mother as they grappled with the loss.
The circumstances surrounding Owusu’s death remain unclear. The emergence of the surveillance footage has provided further details about the handling of his body, but it does not establish who was responsible for his death or why it occurred.
The family is seeking answers as they await further developments in the case.
