Home - President Mahama advances plans to re-establish Ghana's national airline

pic 71186080 President John Dramani Mahama has taken further steps towards re-establishing Ghana’s national airline following discussions with officials of the Boeing Group, which is supporting the government in the process.

Preliminary studies have reportedly affirmed the viability of the proposed airline, with a roadmap agreed upon to guide its establishment and eventual operations.

The roadmap includes identifying a strategic airline partner and a technical partner, securing an Air Operator Certificate (AOC), selecting an appropriate fleet and determining financing arrangements for the project.

The Boeing team has assured President Mahama of its continued support throughout the establishment and operational phases of the proposed carrier.

The airline is expected to make greater use of Ghana’s improved airport infrastructure and support the President’s ambition of positioning Accra as the leading aviation hub in West Africa.

Beyond strengthening the country’s aviation sector, the proposed national carrier is also expected to create thousands of jobs across the industry.

These opportunities are expected to cover various fields, including piloting, cabin crew services, aeronautical engineering and aviation management.

The initiative forms part of broader efforts to rebuild Ghana’s national aviation capacity, improve air connectivity and enable the country to take greater advantage of opportunities in the regional and international aviation markets.
