Home - Government acquires motorcycles to improve Ayalolo bus operations in Accra
The government has acquired additional dispatch motorcycles to support Ayalolo bus operations in Greater Accra, as part of efforts to reduce delays and improve traffic movement during peak hours.
The motorcycles are expected to help dispatch riders clear traffic ahead of Ayalolo buses, allowing the rapid bus transit service to make more trips and transport additional passengers.

Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Mahama Ayariga, said the intervention was necessary to address a shortage of dispatch motorcycles, which had affected the smooth operation of the buses.
Speaking at the presentation of the motorcycles, he said the additional support would help Ayalolo prepare for increased passenger numbers during the Christmas season.
“Ayalolo, as a rapid bus transit company, needs to increase the number of trips to accommodate the increasing numbers we witness every Christmas. To do that effectively, they will need more dispatch bikes to assist with clearing the way,” he said.
He disclosed that Honda dispatch motorcycles had been provided, while riders from the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) had been assigned to operate them in collaboration with the Ayalolo team.
Accra MTTD Commander, DCOP Prince Corbina, assured the minister of the Police Service's support for the initiative.
He said the police would remain committed to efforts to reduce travel time for motorists and pedestrians.
“I assure you that we will be dedicated to the government's efforts to ensure that the travel time for motorists and pedestrians is reduced to the barest minimum,” he said.
Meanwhile, Ayariga dismissed social media reports suggesting that an Ayalolo bus had been involved in an accident, explaining that the bus had only diverted to avoid an accident scene.
“It is a total lie that an Ayalolo bus was involved in an accident. No Ayalolo bus has been involved in any accident. They simply took a detour to avoid the accident scene and continued their journey,” he said.
He urged the public to verify information before sharing it and appealed to motorists to exercise caution as Ayalolo operations expand.
The buses are expected to operate during peak periods, particularly between 6:00am and 9:00am and 4:00pm and 8:00pm.
The government also indicated that the contraflow system would remain in operation as plans progress towards introducing a light rail system as a long-term solution to Accra's mass transportation challenges.
