Home - 'Is that where we want Ghana to get to?' – Mike Oquaye Jnr warns over cocaine cases

pic 54522878 Former Dome-Kwabenya NPP parliamentary candidate Mike Oquaye Jnr has warned that the growing number of cocaine trafficking cases linked to Ghana could damage the country’s international reputation and subject ordinary citizens to more intrusive searches when travelling abroad.

He said Ghana’s reputation was already suffering from reports of large drug consignments seized in other countries, with the consequences extending beyond those involved in trafficking.

Speaking to Emefa Akosua Adeti on JoyNews, Mike Oquaye Jnr said some Ghanaian travellers and officials were already experiencing tougher scrutiny during international travel and visa-related engagements.

He cited what he described as increasingly rigid interviews involving Ghanaian diplomats and personnel of the Foreign Affairs Ministry, saying the changes had been noticeable since late 2025.

“If you were to speak to diplomats, you would find that they are not too happy with the way Ghana’s reputation is being slung in the mud,” he said.

He warned that the situation could eventually lead to Ghanaians being treated unfairly because of their nationality.

“Is that where we want Ghana to get to?” he asked, recalling an experience in which friends from other countries were denied the opportunity to open bank accounts despite having sufficient funds. Source: mynewsgh.com
