Home - NAPO calls for action on school bullying amid Javits' death

pic 48573777 Former Education Minister Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh has called for stronger action against bullying and violence in schools, saying learners must be able to report abuse without fear.

He made the call in a post on X on Thursday, November 5, 2026, as the world marks the International Day against Violence and Bullying at School, including Cyberbullying.

Dr Opoku Prempeh, popularly known as NAPO, said the concerns raised by the father of Javits Frimpong, the 15-year-old Ghanaian who was killed in the United States, about alleged bullying deserved attention as investigations into the teenager’s death continue.

“Every learner deserves to feel safe at school. As we remember Javits Frimpong and pray for his family, his father’s account of bullying concerns deserves attention while investigations continue,” he wrote.

He also called for a thorough investigation into allegations of rape and sexual abuse involving the headmaster of Obuasi Senior High Technical School (SHTS), stressing the need to protect those who come forward.

“The allegations of rape and sexual abuse involving the Obuasi SHTS headmaster also require thorough investigation, due process and protection for those coming forward,” he added.

The headmaster, Zakaria Abdulai, has been suspended following allegations of sexual abuse involving female students of the school. The allegations remain subject to investigation.

Dr Opoku Prempeh further urged school authorities and other stakeholders to create an environment where students can report abuse and be assured that their complaints will be taken seriously.

“Today, as we mark the day against school violence and bullying, including cyberbullying, let us ensure that students can report harm without fear, and that their reports lead to action,” he stated.

His comments come amid growing public concern over the safety of students in schools, following the allegations at Obuasi SHTS and reports of bullying raised by Javits Frimpong’s family.
