Home - Kurt Okraku insists GFA does not select players for Black Stars coaches

pic 21678610 President of the Ghana Football Association, Kurt Okraku, has dismissed suggestions that the Ghana Football Association influences player selections for the Black Stars, insisting that the responsibility rests with the team's technical handlers.

Okraku made the remarks on Wednesday, November 4, while appearing before Parliament's Select Committee on Youth and Sports, where he addressed questions about the management of Ghana's national teams.

“The GFA does not select players. If this ExCo was in the business of selecting players for coaches, I’m sure one of them would’ve come out publicly to say that this is what has been happening,” he said.

His comments come amid recurring debates over player selection for the Black Stars, including questions about squad composition and the possible influence of football administrators on technical decisions.

Okraku maintained that the association's leadership does not interfere in the selection process, insisting that choosing players falls within the responsibility of the coaching staff.

The Black Stars are preparing to return to action this month with a crucial double-header against Somalia in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Ghana will be looking to revive their qualifying campaign after suffering defeats to Côte d’Ivoire and The Gambia in their opening matches, leaving them under pressure to secure positive results in the upcoming fixtures. Source: ghanasoccernet.com
