Sassuolo forward Kevin-Prince Boateng is Barcelona’s chosen No 9 to reinforce the attack. Barcelona are going to loan him until the end of the season with an option to buy after that.

The German-Ghanaian attacker arrived at the Italian side this season from Eintracht Frankfurt. Previously he played for Las Palmas in the 2016-17 campaign but left for family reasons. He scored 10 goals and got 5 assists in 28 La Liga games and one Copa del Rey clash.

In the current campaign, he has 15 games with Sassuolo, scoring five goals and providing two assists.

The 31-year-old forward was out for December with a pelvic injury. However, he’s now back fit and played 90 minutes against Inter Milan last weekend.

Boateng arrives to cover the spot left by Munir El Haddadi, who moved to Sevilla, as Luis Suarez’s back-up.

With Ousmane Dembele out for two to three weeks, Boateng’s signing has been expedited.

Barca directors and coach Ernesto Valverde met on Monday morning to take a definitive decision over Dembele. The green light has been given.

Boateng arrives on Monday afternoon after telling his team-mates this morning that he is leaving to join the Catalans.

KPB can play across the attack or as an attacking midfielder and has good experience after playing in the Bundesliga (Hertha Berlín, Borussia Dortmund, Schalke), Premier League (Tottenham, Portsmouth) and Serie A (Genoa, Milan and now Sassuolo).

Boateng arrives on loan for 2 million euros with an 8m option to buy.

The brother of Germany and Bayern Munich defender Jerome Boateng, Kevin is a Ghana international.
