Alphon Zu FC, a team owned by legendary boxer Azumah Nelson showed great fighting spirit to defeat Nii Ona FC in the finals of the maiden edition of the Betway Stephen Appiah Cup held on Saturday March 10, 2018 at Chorkor.

Alphon Zu after conceding an early goal pulled off a stunning comeback to emerge winners of the tournament which was held to honour the former Black Stars captain for his illustrious service to the nation.

The 2-1 defeat over Nii Ona FC saw players and officials Alphon Zu FC walk home with a GHC 2,500 and a giant trophy. The second an third placed teams were also rewarded with cash prizes.

The tournament which was witnessed by hundred of supporters from Chorkor and it's environs was also graced by Stephen Appiah himself, former Black Stars players, Godwin Attram and Sam Johnson as well as Azumah Nelson.

The football gala, which was organized by leading online sports betting company Betway Ghana, saw eight (8) teams from Chorkor, James Town and its environs competing for cash prizes, bragging rights and other souvenirs.

An elated Stephen Appiah commented on how he had started his football career playing on the same pitches in the Chorkor community. He highlighted how his recently announced collaboration with Betway was geared towards the continuous development of sports in Ghana and provision of opportunities for both players on the Betway platform and aspiring footballers through activities like the Betway Talent Search.
