Government To Sponsor Fans For AFCON2013

The Government of Ghana intends to sponsor up to 1000 fans to South Africa to support the Black Stars.

The gesture forms part of government’s plans to give the best ever support to the Ghana national team at the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations.

There were fears the State will be unable to provide the necessary funds to fly supporters to South Africa as it has done in the past to offer the necessary support to the Black Stars in their quest to win the competition that begins on Saturday.

Ghana has not won the Nations Cup in 31-years and the team ably backed by President John Mahama is determined to bring the trophy back home hence the decision to sponsor the fans to South Africa.

Ex Deputy Sports Minister Dr Omane Boamah has since been place in charge to oversee Ghana’s campaign at the Nations Cup revealed the audacious plan to news men.

The exciting initiative will ensure absolute support is given the Black Stars in their quest to end the long trophy drought at Africa’s flagship competition.

The disclosure adds to efforts being made by individuals and groups, notably a $50,000 donation made by Zoom Lion to sponsor supporters to the Nations Cup.

Ghana will open its Nations Cup campaign against DR Congo on January 20 before facing Mali and Niger in subsequent Group B games to be played in Port Elizabeth.
