Kwesi Pratt Jnr, Managing Editor of the Insight newspaper, is advocating for the restructuring of the country’s transport system.

He was reacting to a recent accident on the Tamale-Kintampo road where over 30 passengers on board two advancing vehicles crashed headlong.

The severity of the crash was so devastating that the two vehicles burst into flames moments after the impact.

The issue of road accidents has become a worry in the country as innocent lives are lost almost on a daily basis nationwide.

Available statistics indicate that between January and February 2020 - a period of two months - 393 commuters perished in road accidents, which involved a total number of 3,874 vehicles.

Contributing to a panel discussion on Peace FM's morning show ‘Kokrokoo’, Kwesi Pratt believes the country seriously needs a ‘comprehensive transport policy’.

“Comprehensive transport policy which will look at how the real network will fit into the general transport policy. How to use our waters for transportation or underground and what vehicles to import and which ones should not be imported. We’ve spoken about standardization of vehicles since Acheampong’s regime, yet nothing has been done about it,” he bemoaned.
