Ugandan academic Stella Nyanzi, who once called President Yoweri Museveni a "pair of buttocks", has been arrested during a protest against the “slow distribution" of relief food to people affected by the Covid-19 lockdown.

Local television station NTV has aired a footage of Ms Nyanzi's arrest on Monday morning in the capital, Kampala.

She is heard saying "my children are hungry I want food, I just want food" while being dragged by four police officers into a police van.

Events promoter Andrew Mukasa, popularly known as Bajjo, was also detained.

They were arrested while heading to the Office of the Prime Minister to seek an explanation for the slow distribution of food relief, the Daily Monitor newspaper reports.

Local media report that it is still unclear where the pair were taken and the charges they are likely to face.

In February the high court quashed her conviction on a charge of cyber-harassing President Museveni. She was nearing the end of her 18-month jail sentence.
