Black Stars midfielder, Thomas Partey has expressed joy after helping Atletico Madrid progress to the knockout phase of the Uefa Champions League on Wednesday night.

The Ghanaian star played the entire game against Lokomotiv Moscow which saw Atletico Madrid enjoy a 2-0 victory at Estadio Wanda Metropolitano thanks to goals from Joao Felix and Alvaro Morata.

Speaking after the game, the 26-year-old lamented his side’s failure to take the lead in the opening minutes of the game from the spot but was happy they managed to sail through with a win at home.

“We are happy because we needed this victory because we were having a lot of great games and we could not win the previous games. Today’s win is very important and we are happy with the victory,” Partey said.

He added, “from the time the team went into the game we knew we were going to put pressure on them. When we missed the first penalty because we are used to missing lots of opportunities we kept trying and today we won.”

Partey will be the only Ghanaian player who will feature in the next round of the Uefa Champions League in February 2020 when the tournament resumes.
