The Techiman Municipal Assembly in the Bono East region has announced plans to temporary shutdown the Techiman Main Market.

The total closure of the market according to authorities will last for a period of one week, that is, from Wednesday, April 22 to April 29.

The temporary closure of the market forms part of plans by the Assembly to put in place proactive measures to deal with a possible outbreak at the market as a result of a lot of traders visiting the market from Accra and Kumasi.

The decision was relayed to the media on Friday, April 17, 2020, the Municipal Chief Executive of the Techiman Municipal Assembly, Honourable John Donyina.

Honourable Donyina revealed that the one-week closure will help the Assembly to put in place strategic plans to help prevent an outbreak of the virus in the Municipality.

He revealed that the Assembly has detected some lapses in the earlier measures they put in place hence the decision to close the market for the right strategies to be put in place.

“We have resolved as an Assembly to order the temporal closure of the Techiman Main Market from next week. The one week closure will afford us the opportunity to put in place the proper measures at the main market which is one of the busiest places in the Municipality.”

He appealed to the media to partner the Assembly by educating the public on the need to abide by the various precautionary measures since COVID-19 is real.

Ghana's coronavirus cases currently stands at 834 but the Bono East region is one of the six regions yet to register a case.
