The Southern Command of the Ghana Arm Forces emerged overall champions at this year's inter-command and formation sports competition held at Nicholson and the El-wak Sports Stadium.

The five-day sports fiesta saw various commands in the Ghana Army, which includes Southern Command, Northern Command, Central Command and the Support Services engaged in various competitions under the theme "Fostering the spirit of corps and teamwork through sports”.

At a very glamorous ceremony at the Nicholson Sports Stadium last Friday, the Southern Command forces proved strong, as they emerged the overall winners, while the Support Services, Northern Command and Central Command took the Ist runner up, second runner and third runner-up respectively.

The Support services certainly emerged winners in women's and men's handball competition.

The Support services also toppled the Southern Command in the finals of men's football competition after beating them 2-1 in the finals.

But the Southern Command athletes proved too strong for their compatriots in athletics.

The Southern Command walked away with a cash prize of Ghc 2,500.00, while Support Services, Northern Command, Central Command all won a cash prize of Ghc 2,000.00, 1,500.00 and 500.00 respectively.
