In an impassioned and inspiring address to Krobos, Nene Sakite II, Konor of Manya Krobo State has called on all Krobos to pull together to effectively manage the current COVID-19 pandemic gripping Ghana.

The Overlord of the Manya Klo Traditional Area in a meeting with development chiefs and queen mothers of the traditional area appealed to Krobos to maintain the calm and asked them to fully abide by the government’s directives, including handwashing, social distancing and staying at home.

Describing the virus as vicious and deadly, Nene Sakite II called on the people to take all precautionary measures as the effects could be deadly.

“This virus is vicious and deadly. I plead with you to exercise care and caution,” said the chief.

“This thing can kill you if you are not careful. I know it might be difficult to stay at home for weeks. However, if that is what it takes, we shall face it and succeed. Our Krobo spirit of determination, resilience and pulling together will serve us well. We are in peculiar times. I am confident that we will effectively fight together and defeat this pandemic”.

Nene Sakite also expressed his gratitude to providers of all essential services - health and medical personnel, security, media, the Assemblies, volunteers and others, “for their tremendous professionalism, dedication and sacrifice.”

“Thanks so much. What you do will help us to get back to our normal lives in due course,” he commended.

The chief also announced that under his leadership, the Traditional Council has formed a COVID-19 Emergency Fund Committee to manage and coordinate human, medical, technical and material resources to support COVID-19 needs of Manya Krobo State and further indicated that a full announcement with more details will be forthcoming in the next few days.

He concluded his remarks by expressing hope to see “all his sons and daughters in one piece after the pandemic is over and called on them to take care and have faith as things are under control.

He reminded them that “the Traditional Council will continue to provide strong leadership to Kroboland and to support the national agenda and all efforts to effectively fight COVID -19”.
