Photographer tenders pictures on stadium disaster in evidence

Peter Kweku Arthur, a photographer of the Graphic Communications Group Limited on Monday tendered two pictures he took during the May 9 Disaster in evidence at an Accra High Court. In a cross-examination by a defence counsel, William Boafo, Arthur said the pictures indicated two of the six officers and fans running helter-skelter at the May Nine stand.

Authur earlier completed his evidence in which he was led by Anthony Gyambiby, Principal State Attorney, in the case in which six police are being tried in the May Nine Stadium Disaster. The officers on trial are John Asare Naami, Faakyi Kumi, Frank Awuah, Francis Aryee, Benjamin B. Bakomora, all Assistant Superintendents of Police and Chief Superintendent of Police, Koranteng Mintah.

They have pleaded not guilty to 127 counts of manslaughter and are on ?20m bail. Arthur explained that he could only identify Chief Superintendent Mintah who was in a blue black striking force uniform. He said he took other photographs, which was in possession of the Okudjeto Commission, which had investigated the case.

The court, presided over by Justice Yaw Appau adjourned the case to Thursday for continuation.
