The GFA Normalization Committee on Tuesday November 6, met with the Parliamentary Select Committee on Youth, Sports and Culture.

The 18-member Select Committee led by Chairperson, Alex Kofi Agyekum, (MP) for Mpohor, requested an official briefing on the background to the Normalization Committee; its formation, core mandate and challenges.

President of the Normalization Committee (N.C) Dr Kofi Amoah, reiterated the three-legged mandates of the Committee namely: Day to Day running of the Ghana Football Association, Reforming Ghana football, and also serve as Electoral Body.

Dr Amoah accentuated the Committee’s effort at raising Seven Million and Two Hundred Thousand Ghana Cedis (Gh7.2million) to finance a competition format that will rejuvenate Ghana football and bring back the thrills and excitement into our local game.

Dr Amoah said the first instinct is to raise the money from corporate Ghana, however as a result of the difficulty in raising sponsorship for domestic football for obvious reasons, the Normalization Committee has petitioned the government to underwrite what is needed as a catalyst to organize this competition which has been created to test some potential solutions to present Ghana football challenges.

Dr Amoah also touched on the plan to form adhoc Committees that will serve as the work-horse for the reformation process. He spoke about the N.C’s sessions with various stakeholders which include but not limited to Club Owners, Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA) Professional Footballers Association of Ghana, (PFAG), Referees Association of Ghana (RAG), among others.

Preparation of the Black Queens towards the upcoming Women Africa Cup of Nations, as well as coordinating activities of other national teams for impending assignments, were also highlighted by Dr Kofi Amoah.

The Chairperson for the Parliamentary Committee on Youth, Sports and Culture, Alex Kofi Agyekum, expressed confidence in the Normalization team and stressed the need to build a Football Association that will steer clear of conflict of interest.

He further assured the Normalization Committee of their support to ensure Ghana football is transformed. A member of the Committee, and MP for Akuapem South, Osei Bonsu Amoah reminded the Normalization Committee to take into account the Legislative Instrument (LI) on Sports passed by Parliament in 2016 when reviewing the Ghana Football Association statutes.

The Normalization Committee was inaugurated on September 13, 2018 with a six-month mandate to restructure Ghana football.
