The Majority Caucus in Parliament has presented a cheque for GHC100, 000.00 as their contribution to the government’s COVID-19 Trust Fund.

The donation is to support government in its effort to mobilize resources to fight to contain and reduce the spread of the Coronavirus disease.

The Majority Leader, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu speaking to the media in Parliament House stated that the donation was their “widow’s mite” to the fund.

He emphasised the need for benevolent organisations and individuals to support the government by every means possible to combat Coronavirus pandemic.

“In respect of the COVID-19 Trust Fund, as you are aware, we finalized the Bill the previous week and the President has assented to it so it’s now an Act and the Trustees have been constituted” he added.

Parliament on Thursday, April 2, 2020, passed the COVID-19 National Trust Fund Bill, 2020 which was later assented by President Nana Akufo-Addo into an Act.

The rationale behind the establishment of the COVID-19 Trust Fund is to enable government to galvanize support from organizations and individuals to contribute to the fight against Coronavirus disease.

Besides, the establishment of the fund would also help the government to receive and properly regulate the donations for its intended objectives.
