It’s 5 days into the 14-day restrictions on movement in some parts of Ghana as the country battles the deadly coronavirus.

The lockdown directive which took effect at 1am on Monday, March 30 is one of the drastic measures by the government to prevent the spread of Coronavirus. It affects areas where significant numbers of virus infections have been recorded – Greater Accra, Kasoa, Tema and Greater Kumasi.

On April 2, 2020, Ghana recorded 9 new cases of coronavirus - shooting the number of cases from 195 to 204.

“Four (4) of them have no history of travel nor contact with any confirmed case. The other four (4) have no travel history but are contacts of confirmed cases in Ghana; and one travelled to Ghana from Benin within the past 14 days,” said the Ghana Health Service (GHS).

Five (5) persons have died while two (2) are said to be in critical condition. According to GHS, “all five (5) deaths had underlying chronic medical conditions prior to COVID-19 infection.”

Three (3) have recovered while forty-nine (49) have been discharged and under home management. One hundred and thirty-five (135) are well and responding to treatment.

The Ministry of Information is holding a press briefing today to provide updates on enhanced testing program, progress on care for the sick and psychologist’s advisory notes during restrictions.
