Hearts has lost its identity – Former Board Member

Ernest Thompson says Hearts has lost its identity Ernest Thompson says Hearts has lost its identity

Hearts of Oak former Board Secretary, Ernest Thompson, has insisted that the club has lost its identity.

The Phobians under Harry Zakkuor’s led administration in 2000 conquered Africa by winning the CAF Champions League, FA Cup and the CAF Super Cup.

In 2004, the Accra giants won the maiden edition of the CAF Confederation Cup.

Since Togbe Afede XIV took over the club six years ago, the club has failed to win any major silverware. The closest they came was last Sunday in the finals of the MTN FA Cup but they got whitewashed 3-1 by their arch-rivals Asante Kotoko.

“I think the true identity of hearts is fading off because the team have failed to uphold the rainbow spirit as well as reposing confidence in their irrepressible supporters,” he told Kumasi-based Nhyira FM.

Why should hearts for the past 8 years failed to win Ghana premier league’’?

“ I think this is not the Hearts of Oak we know so there is something wrong and we should all put our shoulders to the wheel to solve this problem.’’

‘’ I Suggest that if the board still want to stick to the floatation of shares, then they should make it attractive to the fans to buy more to generate money to the team.’’

‘’ Secondly, I also suggest that if the board want to generate enough money to finance the club through the floatation of the shares, then those that the club owe should not be allowed to replace the debt with buying of shares.”
