Ghana, others given deadline to register next CAF Interclub teams

CAF has given 15th of October 2018 as the deadline date CAF has given 15th of October 2018 as the deadline date

The Confederation of African Football (Caf) has given Ghana and other affiliated national associations an October 15 deadline to submit their representatives for the 2018/19 Interclubs competitions.

A letter dated 17th July, 2018 and signed by Deputy General Secretary in charge of Football and Development, Anthony Baffoe states “we would like to inform you that the engagement for Caf Interclubs competitions for the transitional season 2018-2019 is now open on the Caf CMS website as of today.”

“Kindly be reminded that the deadline to receive the applications of engagements is the 15th of October 2018.“

The letter also confirmed the best 12-ranked countries eligible to register two clubs per competition – the Champions League and Confederation Cup.

The poor outings of Ghanaian clubs in these respective competitions over the years mean with the likes of Tunisia, Egypt, RD Congo, Morocco, Algeria, South Africa, Sudan, Zambia, Libya, Côte d’Ivoire, Cameroon and Mozambique making the cut.

“We kindly ask you to register your clubs on the CMS system in accordance with the regulations concerning the clubs to be engaged in each competition,” Caf also stated.

But the dilemma for Ghanaian football is that the country may not be able to submit its representatives as the sport has ground to a halt locally. The current season whose champion and FA Cup winner gain automatic slots at next season’s interclub competitions has been put on hold since the revelations of the famous #Number12 documentary by Anas Aremeyaw Anas.
