Filth engulfs Accra four days after lockdown

It’s been barely four days since the president lifted the lockdown imposed on parts of the country and heaps of filth are already building up at the central business district of Accra.

Though market women in Accra, Tema, Kasoa and Kumasi were part of people exempted from the lockdown, the city was fairly clean during the three weeks people were forced to stay home to help stem the spread of the Coronavirus pandemic in the country.

During the lockdown, very little activity was happening in parts of the city including the central business district.

With a few people moving around town, the city was fairly clean during the period but just four days after the lockdown as lifted, the city has gone back to its usual dirty state.

Traders were sitting close to these heaps of rubbish at various points unconcerned as they plied their trade.

Social distancing was also absent as traders and patrons were busy transacting business and freely walking around.

It raises questions about the attitude of Ghanaians as regards the suppression of the pandemic.

President Nana Addo Dankwa on Sunday 19th April 2020 lifted the lockdown imposed on parts of the country some weeks ago urging Ghanaians to take the necessary safety precautions serious as the country is still fighting the dreaded pandemic

Ghana has so far recorded 1154 coronavirus cases with 120 recoveries and 9 deaths.
