Ebenezer Ofori shines on New York City debut

Ghana international Ebenezer Ofori put up a superb performance for New York City FC on Sunday in his MLS debut as they defeated LA Galaxy by two goals to one.

Ofori who is on loan from German Bundesliga side VFB Stuttgart was introduced by manager Patrick Viera in the 68th minute after NYC FC had taking a 2-1 lead at the Yankee Stadium.

The Ghanaian who replaced Jesus Medina operated in a defensive midfield position and was able to keep the threatening LA Galaxy offensive players at bay.

Medina was not happy about his substitution as he believed he was playing well but Viera explained that it is normal for players to act that way but he needed Ofori in the game to stabilize the midfield.

“What I love about him(Medina) is he wasn’t happy to come off. When players aren’t happy to come off, that means they enjoy being on the field,” Vieira said.

“We needed Ofori to come and protect the back four after LA Galaxy pulled one back in the 61st minute,”

The deal of the Ghanaian is expected to be made permanent after the 2018 MLS season.
