CAF Confed Cup: Akonnor eyes successful home run

Head coach of Kumasi Asante Kotoko Charles Kwabla Akonnor says his side will work hard to win all their home matches in the ongoing CAF Confederation Cup group stage to improve on their chances of qualifying to the next stage of the competition.

Asante Kotoko face Zesco United on Wednesday, February 13 at the Baba Yara Stadium at 1 pm after they lost 0-1 to Al Hilal in their opening group game played in Sudan on Sunday.

“It will be very difficult to make it out of the group if we fail to win our home games. Zesco United won their first match and we are also looking forward to winning our first match here on home soil,” Akonnor told the club's website.

“There is the need for us to win our home matches if we want to go far in the competition. We know it is a tough one, but we are convinced that it is winnable.”

Coach Akonnor admitted to spotting a few defensive errors in his team in the game against Al Hilal saying the technical bench is working to get it solved before Wednesday's encounter.

“It is about talking to the players, exercising and practicing on the ways we can defend well. Most of them are individual errors which we can easily correct by getting the lads to play as a team and defend very well," he added.

The Porcupine Warriors will later host Nkana FC and Al Hilal.

Zesco United top the Group C table with three points after beating fellow Zambian side Nkana FC in their opening game.
