CAF Champions League: Kotoko will still make it - Annan

Asante Kotoko captain, Felix Annan, says he is confident the team will sail through to the next stage of the CAF Champions League despite suffering an ignition failure last Saturday when they lost 2-3 to Nigerian champions Kano Pillars.
He believes they will come out strong and overturn the deficit in the reverse fixture in a fortnight at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi because of the two away goals they scored.

"It’s always difficult playing away from home in the Champions league but to score 2 goals is a plus and it gives us much confidence going into the second leg in Kumasi," Annan told the Graphic Sports in an exclusive interview after the game.

The 24-year Kotoko shot stopper was quick to calm the nerves of the club faithful sounding optimistic that they had a brighter chance of upstaging Kano Pillars because they first leg had offered them the opportunity to fairly access their style of play as well as identify their strength and weaknesses.

"We are very confident because of our play today and knowing how they play now. So with our fans, we believe we will surely beat them. We now know their strengths and weakness so we will work on that", Annan stated.

The Porcupine Warriors came from a goal down to lead 2-1 but poor defensive work ensured the host came from behind to win 3-2, a defeat Annan attributed to the lack of concentration on the part of his teammates.

He admitted that the team had learnt their lessons from the defeat and ready to take on the challenge as they headed to the return leg and believed with the fans behind them they would certainly pull through.

“We lost a little concentration when their pressure was too much but we have learnt from that and move on as we know them now," he noted.

If Kotoko progress from the preliminary stage, they will encounter the winners of the tie between Hafia of Guinea and Etoile du Sahel of Tunisia in the second round which is to be played on the weekends of September 13 to 15.
