The Builsa South District Chief Executive (DCE), Daniel Kwame Gariba, has performed the ground breaking ceremony for the construction of 3-unit classroom blocks in five deprived communities in the area.

The DCE has also handed over a site at Kanjarga-Kalaasa for the construction of an ultra-modern Community- based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compound for the community.

The facilities – both the classroom blocks and CHPS compound, are being constructed through the Northern Development Authority (NDA), under the One Million Dollar Per Constituency Infrastructure for Poverty Eradication Projects (IPEP) to ameliorate the difficulties of the people in accessing education, drinking water and good health care in the district.

For the classroom blocks, sites in the Kasiesi-Yipaala, Fumbisi-Bacheesa, Kanjarga-Samsa, Bachongsa-Nyanbisa and Uwasi-Tuperinsa communities were handed over to contractors to begin work.

Addressing the media after he toured the communities with the contractors, the DCE was hopeful the completion of the schools would take away the risks children go through to get education in communities several kilometres away.

He mentioned that the classroom facilities would encourage children to choose education and increase enrollment in the district. He also announced the procurement of 500 pieces of furniture to make up the furniture deficits in the schools.

Mr. Gariba reiterated the President’s commitment to improve the educational sector in the country and urged the people in his district to take seriously every government intervention in education to better themselves.

To the contractors, the DCE cautioned against shoddy work and urged them to complete the projects within schedule.

“Today, we have handed over sites in a number of communities to contractors for the construction of five 3-unit classroom blocks and a CHPS compound. In addition to that, we are drilling 25 bore-holes in 25 different communities”.

One significant thing that led to the award of these projects, especially the schools, is the fact that all the communities that we have handed over sites for the construction of the classroom blocks are deprived communities that do not have access to education. School children in these communities walk as far as 5km to access education in the next school. We realized this was not good for the children and thought it important that we build the schools”.

“The President wants all children to go to school and for that reason, he made education free but if the access to these schools is not there, then it hampers smooth education of these children and some may go and end up not completing their education. So we are constructing the schools to prevent that and enable the children to go to school”.

In a related development, the DCE has commissioned the drilling of 25 bore-holes to address the challenge of access to drinking water in the area.

The bore-holes would be drilled in area including; Kanjarga-Nyansa Asiik yeri, Kanjarga-Nyansa Azong yeri, Kanjarga-Luisa Goluk, Kanjarga-Vundema, Kanjarga-Jiningsa Pamnyeensa, Doninga-Banyangsa, Doninga-Yepaala, Fumbisi-Zongo, Fumbisi-Pentengsa Ayaata yeri, Fumbisi-Logmiisa.

The other communities are; Fumbisi-Gulaasa, Fumbisi-Batuisa Aluisa yeri, Gbedema-Balerinsa, Gbedema-Tampulinsa, Gbedema-Garibeansa, Gbedema-Kunkwak, Gbedema-Dabomsa, Gbedema-Bangdiok, Chansa-Pindem, Kaadema-Gobsa, Zamsa-Belimoan, Uwasi-Goluk, Uwasi-Abaayeri, Wiesi-Guok and Gbedembilsi-Dalaasa.
