Construction is beginning for a 100-bed infectious disease isolation and treatment facility at the Ga-East Municipal Hospital to be completed in a record four weeks.

An initiative of the Ghana COVID-19 Private Sector Fund is being done in conjunction with the Ministry of Health in support of the fight against new coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

The facility is said to be the first infectious disease centre in the country and it’s to be constructed by the Ghana Armed Forces.

“Owing to the urgency and the current restrictions on the movement of people, we believe the Ghana Armed Forces is best placed to deploy quickly and execute within the set project schedules,” the Ghana COVID-19 Private Sector Fund stated in a letter to the Chief of Defence Staff.

There have been preliminary meetings between Fund and Director-General, Medical Services and Director Engineer Services on the project.

“Volunteer Architects and Engineers from the Ghana Institute of Architects, The Built Environment Professionals and the Ministry of Health have since the 9? of April 2020 been working round the clock to finalize the design.

“They have been working in consultation with the National Case Management officials on COVID-19, the Ghana Armed Forces Engineers and the Ministry of Health,” the letter signed by Senyo Hosi, Acting Managing Trustee of the Fund, said.
