World Union of Catholic Women's Organization (WUCWO) celebrate day

Bolgatanga, May 19, GNA - Women's Organizations in the Catholic Church, under an umbrella union called World Union of Catholic Women Organization (WUCWO), has marked its day at the Sacred Heart Cathedral Church Parish in Bolgatanga.

The Upper East Deputy Regional Minister, Mrs. Lucy Awuni, said the celebration of WUCWU day was to deepen the Catholic faith and enhance the socio-economic development of members worldwide. She said the Theme for the celebration, "The significance of Women's Day" set aside by the United Nations (UN), was to project the achievements of women without regards to national, ethnic, linguistic, cultural, economic or political divide. Mrs Awuni, who was also, Diocesan Laity Council Chairman, said marking the day in Ghana brought to the fore the contributions of women to national development and the need for men and women to unite to end violence against women.

She said government had demonstrated its commitment to appointing women as Ministers of State and District Chief Executives and urged women to assert themselves and contribute to the political and socio-economic advancement of the country. She called on the National Council of Catholic Women to ensure the holistic development of Ghanaian women and the achievement of universal primary education for all children of school going age by 2015.
