Uphold virtues of integrity and ethical standards – EP Church Moderator urges Ghanaian leaders

The Moderator of the General Assembly of the Evangelical Presbyterian (E.P.) Church, Ghana, Rt. Rev. Dr. Lt. Col. (Rtd.) Bliss Divine Agbeko, has called on leaders across all sectors of Ghanaian society to uphold high ethical standards and the virtues of integrity in the discharge of their responsibilities.

He emphasised that leaders are expected to set positive examples, denounce wrongdoing, and earn the trust of their subordinates and followers within their respective spheres of influence.

Rt. Rev. Dr. Lt. Col. (Rtd.) Agbeko made these remarks during a commissioning service held in Adidome, located in the Central Tongu District of the Volta Region.

The event marked the formal commissioning of thirteen newly trained pastors of the E.P. Church who recently completed their theological studies at the Trinity Theological Seminary (TTS) in Legon.

The Moderator, who also serves as Chairman of the Christian Council of Ghana, expressed concern about the growing lack of integrity, moral decline, apathy, and lawlessness affecting many institutions in the country.

He called on leaders to let their faith guide them in championing the much-needed transformation in their respective sectors.

“As leaders, you must guard against condoning corrupt practices. Instead, uphold the virtues of truth, integrity, righteousness, and high ethical and moral standards in your service. Do not compromise or allow any form of exploitation,” he urged.

Rt. Rev. Dr. Lt. Col. (Rtd.) Agbeko also stressed the responsibility of Christian leaders and their congregations to actively combat the moral decline threatening Ghana’s societal fabric.

He called for a bold and sustained crusade against wrongdoing at all levels.

Addressing the newly commissioned pastors, he encouraged them to embrace humility, truth, faithfulness, and diligence in their pastoral duties, reminding them that their message must not only be heard but lived out.

“Go and preach Christ. Preach truth and righteousness. Be faithful to the Word you proclaim and let your lives reflect the message you preach. Your ministry must bear visible, transformative results, not just verbal proclamations,” he said.

Among those present at the commissioning service were the General Secretary of the Christian Council of Ghana, Rev. Dr. Cyril Fayose; the President of Trinity Theological Seminary, Rev. Prof. Fred Mawusi Amevenku; Special Advisor to the Speaker of Parliament and former MP for Ho Central, Mr. Kofi Attoh; members of the clergy; and traditional leaders.
