The World Health Organization defines Mental disorders as a broad range of problems, with different symptoms. They are generally characterized by some combination of abnormal thoughts, emotions, behaviour and relationships with others. The disorder can be treated by a Mental Health Professional that is a Psychiatric.

Apostle Peter Kabutey, founder of Christ Healing Ministry believes he is called into ministry to treat people with mental disorders. The man of God disclosed that, after he was cured of mental illness in his prime time, he then realized that, he has the power to also cure people with mental disorders by praying to God.

In an interview on SVTV Africa, the acclaimed psychiatric told host DJ Nyaami that, he has been healing mad people and all kind of spiritual problems through prayers for over 30 years.

“I was called into ministry while in Italy in the year 1980. I went mad at once after the holy spirit came upon me, so I was sent to an asylum until I recovered. When I return to Ghana I met one man called Ataangma who brought me to Tema-Newtown in1987 to start this church by healing people with mental disorders and all kinds of spiritual problems”

Apostle Kabutey added that there are varieties of mental disorders and some mental cases cannot be treated by the psychiatric hospitals in Ghana unless they resort to spiritual means to solve it. He, however, noted that there are some cases that needed to see a psychiatric and those cases are usually referred to the hospital.

Commenting on marijuana whether or not it should be legalized, he said, “Errr as for wee, I wouldn’t advise that it should be legalized. I’ve smoked it before and it’s not that bad but people abuse it and use it for the wrong reasons, so after a while, they become addicted to it. Some of the cases we’re treating here are wee cases. So I don’t think it should be legalized’’

Speaking to some patients at the church revealed that, some are still not mentally stable, others who are in chains didn’t want to talk at all and are showing some signs of aggressiveness.

The rehabilitation centre is located in Tema – Newtown, Manhean.

Apostle Kabutey noted that his church is open to all and not for some people only.
