Christians urged to be faithful in payment of tithes

Sunyani(BA), July 4, GNA - Reverend Kwadwo Owusu-Sarpong, Sunyani Odumase District Minister of Presbyterian Church of Ghana has appealed to Christians to be faithful in the payment of Tithes to reduce the numerous fund-raising activities in the church.

He noted that because of unfaithfulness and laxity in the payment of tithes the financial situation in the church was precarious. Rev. Owusu-Sarpong made the appeal at a seminar organized for District Presidents and Secretaries of Men's Fellowship in the Brong-Ahafo Presbytery at the Ebenezer Presbyterian Church, Sunyani on Wednesday.

It was under the theme, "Tithing and other Financial Contributions towards the Church - Attitude of Men in the Church". Rev. Owusu-Sarpong noted that since the introduction of tithe payment in the church, its revenue level at all levels had improved considerably but not without challenges.

He commended women in the church for their contribution especially their regularity and punctuality in church activities and their financial commitments as compared to the men. Rev. Owusu-Sarpong appealed to men in the church to rise up to the task as faithful servants of the Lord and be actively involved in all church activities.

The participants expressed concern about the number of church members who participate in communion service and appealed to the General Assembly of the church to review conditions for communicants taking into consideration Ghanaian cultural practices.
