Gbetsile has no chief - Kpone elder cautions

Numo Tei Dortey, Family head of the Kojo We Clan at Kpone Numo Tei Dortey, Family head of the Kojo We Clan at Kpone

The family head of the Kojo We Clan at Kpone in the Kpone Traditional Area, Numo Tei Dortey has served notice one Nii Tei Kojo, who he claimed is styling himself as Chief of Gbetsile, to stop parading himself as such since there is no chief enstooled by the Kingmakers.

He said "Obeyie and Gbestsile are the dual custodians of the entire Gbetsile lands and just like the other villages such as Appolonia, Sabrepor, Sackey and all other villages under the Traditional Area, they all have various Elders and Kingmakers who enstool chiefs to man their affairs, so it is unfortunate that one clan is claiming ownership ofnthe Gbestsile area."

Numo Dortey noted that elders of Kojo We Clan together with that of Sanshie We Clan are the two Royal families that have the right to install a chief at Gbetsile as the King making clans at Gbestsile.

Numo Dortey said these at a gathering at Kpone when he affirmed that Gbestsile and Obeyie are the two royal clans and legal custodians of Gbetsile lands and are the only clans that can install a chief.

He said, "the time has come for the public to be told the truth about the Gbestsile brouhaha to ensure that the right thing is done at Gbetsile because it is not right for the Sanshie Clan alone at Gbetsile to hijack the entire Gbetsile town and lands as though they were the sole custodians thereby shielding away the family head and kingmaker of the Kojo we Clan who has equal stake in all the Gbestsile lands."

He said it is illegal for Sanshie We Clan alone to take unilateral decision to install a chief without the concern of the kingmaker and family head of Kojowe Clan at Obeyie.

He announced that "from the records, Numo Emmanuel Tetteh Amankwah aka Naanatse is the legitimate family head of the Kojowe Clan at Obeyie and equally has same stake in Gbetsile lands just as the family head and kingmaker of the Sanshie Clan at Gbetsile."

Numo Emmanuel Tetteh Amankwah who sounded worried over the development on his part advised the public to disregard the claims being peddled around that sought to suggest that Gbetsile has a chief because the said chief was not unilaterally installed by the two kingmakers of Gbestile.

"I am the family head and kingmaker of the Kojo We Royal clan and as far as I am concerned, I have not sanctioned the installation of any chief so the said self-styled Chief must not be taken serious and any transactions that would be entered with him shall be nullified in the fullness of time".

According to Numo Naanatse, he has been the family Head of the Kojo We Clan at Obeyie for about forty years till date and would in no way allow his tittle and position be relegated to the background.

"Nobody has installed the said Nii Teye Kojo chief at Gbetsile and even if the need be, we would do so after a careful consultation among ourselves as the two ruling and royal clans of Gbetsile".

"…Currently there is a case pending at the traditional council concerning the illegal installation of the self-styled Chief of Gbestile which sought to challenge the legitimacy of the self-touting chief of Gbestile."
