Eligible voters urged to register

Agona Nsaba (C/R), Jan 3, GNA - Mr King Ebow Wilson, an opinion leader at Agona Nsaba in the Central Region, has urged Ghanaian who have attained the age of 18 years and above to register when Voters Register is re-opened to enable them exercise their franchise, in the 2004 general election.

Speaking to the GNA on New Year's Eve at Agona Nsaba, Mr Wilson said Ghanaians would be doing themselves a great disservice if they refused to "honour their democratic right".

He noted that the success or failure of the 2004 elections would depend on the people.

Mr Wilson who is a businessman told GNA that it was wrong for Ghanaian to focus and support only two political parties namely New Patriotic Party (NPP) and National Democratic Congress (NDC) while the rest are relegated to the background.

He noted that this would not ensure a true democracy that would help in the advancement of the country's social, political, cultural and economic transformation.

Mr Wilson called on supporters and leaders of political parties especially those of the NPP and NDC to exercise restraints during the political campaign to ensure peaceful elections.

He said it was not fair for leaders of political parties to insult their opponents just because they want votes.

Mr Wilson said the "Ghanaians are wild awake this time as far as politics and electoral issues are concerned unlike previously when people were deceived to vote for parties".

He called for unity and peace in the country to ensure economic development to attract local and foreign investors.
