Clergyman calls for review of marriage age

Reverend Prophet Prince Kofi Okyere, President of Faith Anointing International Ministries, has called for a review of the marriage age from 18 to 24 years.

This, he said, would prepare the couples physically, mentally and psychologically to ensure a successful marriage.

Rev. Okyere made the call on Saturday at a day’s conference for singles preparing for marriage at Abokobi-Pantang, near Madina in the Greater Accra Region.

The conference, on the theme: “Making Relationship and Dating Blissful for Marriage,” was to educate the participants on certain aspects of marriage and equip them both physically and mentally for a successful marriage.

Rev. Okyere said at age 18, the couples would lack the basic things needed for marriage hence the need to review it to 24 years to make them more matured.

“At age 18, the couple has no experience, some of the ladies might not even know how to breastfeed a child or carry a baby at the back,” he said.

Rev. Okyere said at age 24, the couple might have gained some experience and could perform their duties without any supervision.

He charged the participants to exhibit some kind of love with their partners and also be dedicated to the teachings of God at all times.

He urged them not to rush into marriage if they were not prepared at that could ruin their lives.

The participants expressed joy for the exposure and knowledge gained and said they would share it with their colleagues.

About 100 participants from Abokobi, Pantang, Madina, Oyarifa, Teiman and its environs attended the conference.
