Youth asked to invest in hotel business

Gambaga (N/R), Aug. 12, GNA - Mr John Kofi Kassachin, East Mamprusi District Coordinating Director has appealed to beneficiaries of the National Youth Fund (NYF) to venture into the hotel industry to provide accommodation for foreigners who would invest in the development of the district.

He said the district has a lot of tourist attractions and potential for commercial farming but because of the lack of decent accommodation, most foreigners were unwilling to invest in the area.

Mr Kassachin was addressing a one-day capacity building workshop for youth groups who had applied for loans from the NYF to promote their businesses.

The National Youth Council organised the workshop at Gambaga in the East Mamprusi District on Thursday.

About 50 participants from Langbinsi, Gbangu, Nalerigu, Gbintiri, Sakogu, Nakpanduri, Bunkprugu and Gambaga, all in the East Mamprusi District, attended the forum, which was on the theme: "Youth Entrepreneurial Business - A Tool for Development".

Mr Alhassan Mohammed Bawa, the District Youth Coordinator said the government established the NYF to help reduce youth unemployment and poverty, especially in the rural areas.

He said, however, that funds would not be released to groups who could not manage their business effectively.

He appealed to the National Business Committee of the NYF to expedite action on the release of the loans to the applicants.
