You're being insensitive in the heat of Coronavirus – EC told

EC Chairperson, Jean Mensa EC Chairperson, Jean Mensa

National Organizer of the People’s National Congress and a member of the Inter-Party Resistance Against the New Voters’ Register, Desmond Twumasi Ntow, has asserted that the Electoral Commission (EC) has shown insensitivity in the heat of Coronavirus by announcing that the compilation of the new register will commence.

According to him, all that the political parties sought to do was to advise the EC on the path it has taken, however, the Electoral Commission is “not prepared to listen or learn” from this constructive criticism. In his opinion, the previous administration was always quick to accept constructive criticism.

In an interview with Samuel Eshun on the Happy Morning show, he bemoaned the attitude of the Electoral Commission towards stakeholders as he described the EC as a “confused commission”.

“Why is it that when the stakeholders question the EC, they then run to the media to make a lot of noise? Ghanaians should consider that there is no public gathering but because one person wants to be president, we are all going to stay in line to register for a voters’ card. Are we serious?”, he queried.

He furthered that even though the EC’s attitude is quite discouraging, the Inter-Party Resistance group will not relent in their efforts against the compilation of the new voters’ register.

Following the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, the EC suspended the compilation of a new voters’ register which was scheduled for April 18 this year.

However, the EC has said that it will soon announce a new date for the compilation of the new voters’ register.

Meanwhile, the Commission has announced some safety protocols it will abide by and expect Ghanaians to abide by during the registration exercise.
