Yendi District Assembly to institute mechanism to address conflicts

Accra, Nov. 22, GNA - The Yendi District Assembly has resolved to put in place early warning and response mechanism to address conflict and disaster issues in the area.

According to a communiqu=E9 released in Accra after a two-day workshop organized in Yendi by the assembly, with support from Action Aid Ghana, the assembly resolved that a viable body comprising civil society and security agencies be put in place to address all future security and disaster concerns.

It said the Yendi peace process should be given a wider scope to involve more actors on the ground and urged the factions to soften their stance in search for lasting peace.

Participants appealed to donors and other agencies to support the Yendi District Assembly in the peace building efforts. They appealed for a military barracks to be permanently established at the eastern corridors to take care of the dicey situation there. A document on early warning response systems would soon be developed as a working, the statement said.
