Engineering at the Tamale Technical University Dr Clifford Braimah and Former Northern Regional Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) was a lead contender for the post of regional minister until his name was dropped at the last minute.

On Tuesday, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo named Salifu Saeed a former District Chief Executive (DCE) for Nanumba North District as Minister-Designate for the Northern region.

Deep-throat sources revealed that the regional chairman of the party, Daniel Bugri Naabu stated explicitly during a caucus meeting he could not work with the former party executive and therefore demanded he should be changed.

“During the meeting, chairman said he could not work with Doctor because he cannot control him. He also reminded Nana of his pact with regional chairmen in the run up to the 2016 elections to either present their preferred nominees if they themselves are not qualified”, it revealed.

Subsequently, the name of Dr Braimah was dropped for Salifu Saeed who will go through vetting and when sworn into office handle one of the regions described as a hotspot in the country”

Meanwhile, various pro-NPP groups continue to congratulate the nominee and have promised him their unflinching support should he sail through at the vetting.

On Wednesday, the Nanumba Youth Association (NAYA) commended President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for his electoral victory and for nominating its member Salifu Saeed as the Northern Regional Minister-Designate.

In a statement issued and jointly signed by its executives, Abubakari Alhassan and Alhaji Iddrissu Ismeal Adam respectively, the group observed that this is the first time in 35 years, a son of Nanung has been appointed as a Regional Minister for the northern region.
