West Akyem MCE calls for re-awakening of communal spirit

Asamankese, Sept. 24, GNA - The West Akyem Municipal Chief Executive, Mr Kwabena Sintim-Aboagye, has exhorted members of the assembly, especially the elected ones, to re-awaken communal labour spirit in their people to undertake community projects and programmes. He urged them to use the same zeal and commitment that they used when they were campaigning for their positions as assembly members, to convince the people to accept to undertake communal labour and other community programmes, for the development of the communities and the municipality as a whole. Addressing the third ordinary meeting of the second session of the assembly at Asamankese, Mr Sintim-Aboagye observed that most assembly members had failed to inspire their people to undertake communal labour. He said much as it was true that community members might not be too enthusiastic in undertaking communal labour, their inability to offer the required leadership and inspiration was a major contributory factor for the low communal spirit among residents in the municipality. "As leaders and role models in your various communities, you have the respect and authority to be able to organize and galvanize the people into action. "Your interaction, persuasion, appeal, commitment, zeal, ideas and willingness to initiate and innovate are some characteristics that you need to have to be able to influence your communities to undertake these communal activities. The MCE said the failure of members to inspire their communities often led to their refusal to contribute their quota towards the execution of most donor funded projects in the municipality, particularly the European Union projects. He expressed the hope that members would take up the challenge to positively influence the mind set of the people to act appropriately.
