The Asunafo South branch of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) has denied its involvement in the recent attack on Member of Parliament (MP) for the constituency Hon. Eric Opoku.

Some unidentified thugs allegedly on Sunday assaulted the National Democratic Congress (NDC) MP and vandalised his properties which included his vehicles.

The armed men also inflicted machete wounds on three other persons believed to be sympathisers of the main opposition party.

The Police say it is unclear what triggered the attack which occurred on Sunday.

But commenting on the development, in an interview with Abusua News reporter Opoku Agyemang Derrick, NPP’s Communications Director in the Asunafo South constituency, Nana Adusei Poku said his outfit has no hand in the ‘unfortunate attack’ on the MP despite being accused of engineering the gory attack.

He has sinc charged the police to speed up its investigations into the case and bring the perpetrators to book.

”We were shocked when we heard this issue, the fact of the matter is that we solidarize with our MP even though we belong to the other side of the political divide. We don’t want these things to be happening in our constituency,’‘ he said.

He indicated that they do not want ‘‘the peace currently being enjoyed in the Asunafo South to be marred by some of these obnoxious acts and atrocities”.

Meanwhile, police in the Brong Ahafo Region are on a manhunt for the hoodlums. The injured persons are also receiving treatment in the hospital.
