University of Ghana to hold public forum on coronavirus on March 5

The University of Ghana Emergency Response Team (UG ERT), which is made up of the Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research and the University of Ghana Hospital is set to hold a public health forum to discuss the University’s Healthcare System’s preparedness in preventing a possible outbreak of the deadly COVID 19.

The forum, scheduled for Thursday, March 5, 2020 at the R.S Amegashie Auditorium of the University, has become necessary following some recorded cases in the sub-Saharan region and the increasing rate of reported cases in other parts of the world.

It is expected to expound and highlight the standard recommendations for preventing infection.



Globally, nearly 100,000 cases have been reported with over 3,000 deaths recorded already.

According to the Ghana Health Service, all 33 suspected cases of coronavirus in the country have tested negative.

Although health officials in the country have announced their preparedness for a possible outbreak of the virus, University of Ghana authorities have also taken steps to ensure that members of its community are safe.

It has allocated three of its bungalows to quarantine persons who will be suspected to be infected with the coronavirus.

The University says that all confirmed cases of COVID-19 infection will be transferred to Ridge Hospital immediately.

Thursday’s public health forum will be transmitted live on Radio Univers 105.7FM and live updates will be given on Radio Univers’ online and social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram – @univers1057fm).
