Some aspirants of various Student Representative Council (SRC) portfolios at the University of Ghana have signed a commitment pledge to halt indiscriminate posting on campus.

The aspirants, garnering for the various SRC portfolios at the University of Ghana, made this undertaking commitment at a dialogue on ‘indiscriminate posting on campus’ which was held at the SRC Union Building on Friday.

The dialogue was a complement to an active campaign spearheaded by Radio Univers to clamp down on indiscriminate posting on University of Ghana, an action that had adversely affected the nature and beauty of the University’s environment.

The engagement, which sought to enlighten students on the policies and regulations on advertisements on the University of Ghana campus and also provide alternative avenues for advertisement, was organized in collaboration with the Students Representative Council, the Advertisement Committee and the Public Affairs Directorate of the University.

The Advertisement Committee, together with the Public Affairs Directorate of the University briefed students on the policies and regulations on advertisements and assured students of the provision of alternative notice and billboards for advertisements and campaigns for the electioneering period and beyond.

After the engagement, a consensus was reached by the various stakeholders, where the aspirants signed a commitment form to stop and as well remove all indiscriminate posting on campus to restore and maintain the fast depleting aesthetics of the university.

Background

The University of Ghana has been battling with the menace of indiscriminate posting as SRC aspirants, church groups and other entities have resorted to uncontrolled splashing of posters at unauthorized places on campus as a means of advertisement.

Radio Univers last year, began an active campaign to fight this problem, a move which led to other Universities adopting bold steps to ban indiscriminate postings on their various Campuses.

Last month, the Dean of Student Affairs at the University of Ghana, Professor Godfred Bopkin, issued a notice officially prohibiting all forms of postings at unauthorized places on campus.
