UDS embarks on medical outreach

University for Development Studies on Saturday organised free medical screening for residents in the Sagnarigu Municipality to ascertain their health status for early treatment to prevent any eventualities.

The exercise, which was held at two separate locations in the Municipality including the forecourt of Sagnarigu Chief’s Palace and the Tamale Senior High School, saw a team from UDS’s Health Services and the Ghana Health Service screened residents for hypertension, obesity and eye care.

Those, whose hypertensive status required attention, were given medicines whilst those with refractive problems were given subsidized spectacles, and were advised to seek further treatment at health facilities.

They were also assisted to renew their health insurance subscriptions.

The exercise formed part of UDS’ social responsibility activities to ensure the well-being of people within its catchment area.

Management members of UDS including its Council Chairman, Pro-Vice-Chancellor, and Registrar were present to oversee the exercise.

Dr Baba Tanko Zakaria, Registrar of UDS, who spoke during the exercise at the Sagnarigu Chief’s Palace at Sagnarigu, said good health was important for improved productivity, hence, the exercise to keep the residents healthy.

Dr Zakaria said the University was considering other projects, which would soon be rolled out to assist members of its catchment communities in various ways.

Dr Azeez Kabiru, Director, University Health Services, UDS, encouraged the beneficiaries to continue to eat good food, exercise their bodies and check their health status regularly to stay healthy.
