Two drown in Senya Breku after heavy downpour

Two children have drowned following a heavy downpour at a village near Senya Breku in the Central region.

The boys, aged seven and five, both students of Senya Academy, according to reports, were returning from school when they were washed away by the rainy water.

An eyewitness, Kwame Yaate who tried to save the boys said the incident has shocked many in the town.

He indicated that 7-year-old Joshua Darko was trying to save his brother, Dominic Darko, 5, when the water carried them away into a gutter.

Kwame Yaate explained that, the gutter flows into a nearby stream, so the neighbours followed through to the stream to attempt to rescue him but the little boy died before getting to the stream.

He said he managed to pull Joshua out of the water and was rushed to the nearby hospital for medical attention.

“Joshua was rushed to the hospital but the lifeless body of his brother was later found and brought home” he added.

Kwame Yaate said the family of the deceased who were wailing uncontrollably as the men preparing the body for burial.
