Traditional ruler commends Ghanaians for spirit of patriotism

Mankessim (C/R), March 14, GNA - The Tufuhene of Ekumfi Traditional Area, Nana Kofi Enu II has commended Ghanaians for the unity and enthusiasm they displayed during the Golden Jubilee celebration of the nation's independence.

"It should urge us on to rekindle our communal spirits to facilitate development of our communities," he said. Nana Enu was speaking to the Ghana News Agency at Mankessim during an Award Night organised by the Mfantseman District Jubilee Anniversary Planning Committee in collaboration with the District Assembly. He urged Ghanaians to use the same spirit of nationalism to tackle the nation's development agenda.

Nana Enu, known in private life as Nana Sagoe, a Kumasi-based timber merchant, noted with satisfaction that on March 6, the climax of the celebration, there was nothing like the New Patriotic Party, National Democratic Party, Convention People's Party or any other political party but Ghana.

"What was on display was the national colours, which depicted unity and togetherness."

The Chief recalled the spirit of patriotism with which Ghanaians supported the National Team, the Black Stars during the 2006 World Cup in Germany, but expressed regret that the spirit could not be sustained after the fiesta.

"This time let us bury our political, ethnic and religious differences and place Ghana above anything else. We should all bear in mind that in unity lies strength."
